The Release Candidate for Vista SP1 got released yesterday to 15000 testers from Microsoft Connect, and today it will be available to MDSN and Technet subscribers.

Starting from next week it will be possible for everyone to download and test this package.

Vista SP1 will mainly be a collection of security updates and updates that corrects some “errors”. The package will also increase your Vista performance but it will not have any new facilities.

Better installation

The install process for Vista SP1 has been improved in many ways compared to the older test versions.

  • The size for the installation files has been made a lot smaller compared to the older test versions. The update now require 4 GB, the older version required as much as 7 GB. A part of this disk space is being used as a buffer so that the final hard disk demand is a little bit lower.
  • A temporarily folder on around 1 GB which your PC creates under the installation will be automatically deleted after the installation is done, this gives you 1 more free GB.
  • The installation process has be optimized and corrected for errors compared too SP1 Beta. The process will also contain more information about the update so the users will know more about the product.

The Launch

The final version of Vista SP1 will be launched in the beginning of 2008. The first languages this pack will be available at are English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese.

Automatic updates of SP1 will be blocked at first so the persons who do not wish to install Vista SP1 don’t have too. This is mostly meant for Administrators. Microsoft has also released their own blocking program which you can download from Microsoft’s homepage.
